40 Stunning Vector Landscape Illustrations

Sep 9th in Web Roundups by Chris Spooner

As with traditional art forms, landscapes are also a popular focus in the digital world if vector art. This collection of 40 stunning vector landscapes showcases a range of illustrated scenery from talented artists and illustrators from around the web.

A common feature seen in all the examples is how the use of vector graphics results in a unique crisp and stylized image, ranging from colourful 'cartoon-like' designs to more abstract and geometric illustrative works.

This is a great collection. Some of them are “recycled images” but a good source of inspiration.

  2. Andrew Houle September 9th

  8. Oksancia September 9th

Thank you for featuring my work “Surprised hedgehog”!!! :D
    So honored!

  9. Robin September 9th

    Hey Chris,

I know this will be subjective, but I think several of the examples are poorly crafted, especially the light pole/building and the Parthenon/town ones. They look like bad use of Live Trace and Live Paint. Why not reduce the amount and show the really strong, professional looking ones?

    Just my .02

  10. Nick September 9th

Another good example on my portfolio site at http://www.nickhand.net .

I find it quite hard to believe that the designs in pictures 11.jpg and 11.5.jpg aren’t using raster backgrounds. Are there SVG links for these so we can see how they’re made up? Or am I just being a mug?

  12. Chris Leavens September 9th

I hate to be anything but positive and supportive of other artists’ work, but I’d have to agree with Robin. There appears to be a lot of Live Trace going on. It’s really hard for me to find a whole lot of value in auto-traced “art.” Seems like a rather lazy approach.

There are some really nice ones, though, too (the crazy sunrise/sunset with the rainbows, the second one). I also like the snow scene quite a bit.

Ugh. Total trendfollowing, all of it. Show us something fresh and new, not this warmed over deviantart emo crap.

  14. Jonathan September 9th

Good collection, although I may be slightly biased since one of my illustrations made the list! :)

  15. Hallaroo September 9th

What? No ‘Change of Seasons’ from Silveryn??

That’s a classic from around 2003 that practically spawned countless clones of it all on its own.

  16. Jen September 9th

Oh cool… I see some Josh Ellingson in there :D

    I miss that guy

  17. Designer September 9th

    WOWWWWWWWWWWWWWWWWW!!!!!!!!!

  18. Ben September 9th

A friend just sent me this link, I just wanted to say thank you for including quite a few of my illustrations in this list! Thanks especially for having them all link to my website, much appreciated.

My tuppence worth… I agree with Robin and Chris Leavens, some of these are using Live Trace/Paint, (and just to stand my ground… none of mine do, all my vector illustrations are traced from my own pencil drawings) but if the effect works for the ‘artist’ then why not? However, these functions will not make someone who is technically proficient into an impressive artist, there will always be a natural illustration talent required to really become a successful illustrator.

  19. Ines September 10th

    Great article =)

  20. stelt September 10th

Please just put the SVG files right here, or to the very least link directly to them

  21. starry September 10th

  22. Jack September 10th

Have seen a lot of these but they do hold a great first impression.

  23. Michael Garmahis September 10th

But where’s actually vector files? I see only raster graphic. It could be created with any raster software until you don’t provide source file.

  24. Charles September 10th

Thank you for featuring my site (Best Mortgage Deals)!

Hopefully the design will be even better when I finally open the doors and it becomes a real working site rather than just the fancy holding page I have right now! :)

  25. erichansa September 10th

  26. PureDezigner September 10th

  28. Dan September 11th

The one used for the thumbnail is just slick

  29. James Deering September 11th

How come we’ve got to the point where infantile work is rewarded? There are other people (Including myself) who are working on real art applications using the XML graphic format of SVG. This is just sad.
